MPP DA KZN SPOKESPERSON ON COGTA
SHOULD KZN COGTA MEC, Nomusa Dube, fail to ensure that the full 700 page Manase report, relating to alleged fraud and corruption within Ethekwini municipality, is released by the end of March, the Democratic Alliance in the province’s legislature will apply for the Access to Information Act in a bid to force her hand.
Council and the MEC’s ongoing stalling tactics are disappointing and smack of a cover-up. Ratepayers have been made to wait for years while fraud and corruption continues unchecked within Ethekwini- first with the findings of the Ngubane report being disputed and kept under lock and key – and now with the deferring of the release of the full Manase report. The DA strongly condemns the claim by the ANC that the release of this document will lead to the municipality being sued by officials. This excuse is a complete contradiction when certain senior officials have already been named and shamed. We welcome the announcement that an independent investigator has been appointed and will be handing over further damning information, from a reliable source, which includes the names of companies linked to senior officials that have benefitted from doing business with the Council.
The DA will not rest until the full report is made public and has tabled the matter for the next COGTA portfolio committee meeting. Should the MEC fail to heed our call we will go to the next level.
