John Moodey MPL
DA Gauteng Provincial Leader
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng welcomes the announcement by Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, that her office will be investigating allegations of maladministration in Braamfischerville, Johannesburg. This follows concerns raised by residents of Braamfischerville over raw sewerage spill and the suspicious involvement of local officials.
The residents of Braamfischerville, and in fact all those across our province and country living in similar conditions, deserve better. We commend this community for standing up for their hard won rights. The fastest way to undermine delivery to the most vulnerable citizens of this country is through corruption and maladministration. Public officials who knowingly partake in such practices should be held to account and prevented from further denying basic services to our people.
The voices of the residents of Braamfischerville have been heard and the DA commends the Public Protector for her swift response. It is through such active participation in our democratic processes that South Africa will move forward from strength to strength.
