Kate Lorimer, DA MPL
DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Community Safety
Today in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, I asked Gauteng Community Safety MEC, Faith Mazibuko, what the current status is of the criminal case against MEC Humphrey Mmemezi’s blue light brigade driver who ran over teenager Thomas Ferreira on the way to an ANC party event.
I asked whether disciplinary action has been taken against this member of the SAPS. The MEC chose to take issue with the phrase “blue light brigade” and claimed she did not know what I was talking about as it is not a recognised constitutional term. She did not answer the question.
I am disgusted by the blatant contempt the MEC shows for the Ferreira family and what they are going through. All they want is for the person responsible for injuring their son to be held accountable.
MEC Mazibuko once again shows ignorance of her role of oversight and should be ashamed. Sticking her tongue out and wagging her fingers at me in the House is not the way a public representative should behave and highlights her uncaring attitude.
I suggest Madam MEC that you grow up, uphold your constitutional responsibilities and do your job.
