DA Northern Cape: Provincial spokesperson for Economic Development
The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape is not impressed by the turn out at the Public Hearing on the Division of Revenue Bill 2012, which was held at the legislature building in Kimberley this morning. This comes after an advertisement inviting the public to the event was only placed in the DFA today.
While the hearing proceeded, only about 25 people attended, most of whom were stakeholder representatives. Members of the general public however, were missing.
Clearly a communications flop has led to a situation whereby the public was not properly notified about this hearing. Ultimately, this boils down to poor planning and entails a waste of financial resources, as the advert served no purpose due to its late placement. The legislature also failed to afford the public a realistic opportunity to attend the hearing.
The DA will request an explanation from the Speaker on the reasons behind this communication bungle. Where there is money involved, people must be held accountable and measures must be put in place to prevent a repeat of such inefficient planning.
