THE 59-year-old Eshowe principal who allegedly raped a 17 year old learner at his school – and then went on to offer the girl’s family lobola after being charged with the offence – is a disgrace to his profession.
According to a media report the principal, who is from Manxele High School, is currently out on bail of R5 000. To add insult to injury, it appears that the girl’s family have received the lobola. The long arm of the law must be extended so that they too are punished for having betrayed their young charge.
The DA commends the social workers involved for their sensitive handling of this case for their commitment to protecting this learner from further harm. As her principal, she had no reason to doubt his intentions when he called her to see him. Communities need to act and condemn these barbaric acts, which are becoming endemic within our province – those who abuse their position of trust must be driven from our schools.
