COPS MUST BE CHARGED FOR STOLEN AMMO

Kate Lorimer MPL

DA Gauteng Community Safety spokesperson

The reported theft of about 100 000 rounds of ammunition from a police training facility in Soweto and 88 000 rounds from a facility in Benoni is an absolute disgrace. I find it hard to believe that no individuals could be identified as the perpetrators in this matter and that no criminal charges have been laid or members dismissed. I question the competence of the investigators involved.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Mzwandile Petros, must give us a report on how these thefts occurred and what measures have been put in place to prevent this happening again.

I will be writing a letter to the chairperson of the Gauteng Legislature’s Community Safety Committee to look into the matter.

The very people we should trust to protect us appear to be negligent or even possibly involved in selling weaponry which is likely used in crimes against us.
