DA QUESTIONS MMEMEZI AND GAUTENG PREMIER

DA Gauteng Caucus

Gauteng Local Government and Housing MEC, Humphrey Mmemezi, faces probing DA questions in the Gauteng Legislature tomorrow, 29 May 2012.

Mmemezi will have to answer questions from the DA relating to his credit card spending and mishaps with his official vehicle.

DA Gauteng Caucus Leader, Jack Bloom, will be asking a question without notice to Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane.

This promises to be an exciting face-off.

PREMIER’S QUESTION TIME

** 3.PR001 Ms K L Lorimer (DA) to ask the Premier:

Noting the media release from the Provincial Government on 8 November 2012 which states firstly that “Gauteng Province promises to take care of crash victim’s medical needs” and secondly that “Mokonyane made a commitment to the family that the provincial government will take care of Ferreira’s medical needs.”; will the Premier please indicate:

(i) whether the Provincial government will be making a financial contribution to the Ferreira family for Thomas Ferreira’s medical expenses; (ii) if not, why not; (iii) if so, when will this money be paid out; and (iv) what accounts for the delays in this matter?

QUESTIONS FOR ORAL REPLY TO THE EXECUTIVE

4.HL004 Mr J B Bloom (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Health:

With regard to electricity failures at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, will the MEC please indicate:

(i) how many electricity failures have there been at this hospital this year.

(ii) what was the duration and date of each such failure;

(iii) what was the reason for the failure in each case;

(iv) in which incidents did generators not kick in; and

(v) why did the generators not operate, including specifically the power failure on 15 May 2012?

4.LG&HS004 Mr F P Nel (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Local Government and Housing:

With regard to the Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housings vehicle, BMW X5 registration number XDF 802 GP, could the MEC please indicate:

(i) who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident on 11 November 2011;

(ii) what is the Accident Report number issued for this accident after reporting it to the SAPS;

(iii) why has the insurance refused to pay the claim for this accident;

(iv) how much is the assessed damage to the vehicle; and

(v) why will this vehicle be sold by auction?

4.LG&HS005 Mr F P Nel (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Local Government and Housing:

With regard to the government credit card issued to the MEC could he please indicate:

(i) whether the credit card was used to make a purchase from President Hyper in Krugersdorp on 16 April 2011;

(ii) whether the credit card was used to make purchases from Woolworths Harrison street on 22 September 2011 and 19 January 2012;

(iii) what were the purposes of the purchases made on 16 April 2011, 22 September 2011 and 19 January 2012 respectively;

(iv) what were the amounts of the purchases made on 16 April 2011, 22 September 2011 and 19 January 2012 respectively; and

(v) whether these purchases were in line with the official guidelines for the use of an official credit card?

4.ECD001 Dr G L M Lewis (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development:

With regard to the high youth unemployment in Gauteng, will the MEC please indicate:

(i) whether the MEC is prepared to lobby at national level for the introduction of the youth wage subsidy, as proposed by national treasury; and

(ii) if not, why not?

4.PS004 Mr N Ramulifho (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Community Safety:

With regard to theft of Gauteng online project computer laboratory facilities will the MEC please indicate:

(i) whether there are any cases concluded since 2007;

(ii) if so, how many;

(iii) whether there are any convictions made to date;

(iv) whether there are any repeat offences at one or more schools; and

(v) what measures, if any, have been put in place to prevent theft of computer lab facilities?

4.INF003 Mr J B Bloom (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Infrastructure Development:

With regard to the application under the Promotion of Access to Information Act received by your office on 22 October 2011 concerning particulars of the furniture in the Premier’s official residence, will the MEC please indicate:

(i) why was this application completely ignored (see attached proof of delivery and copy of application);

(ii) whether the department will comply with the Act in this instance; and

(iii) if not, why not?

4.ECD002 Dr G L M Lewis (DA) to ask the Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development:

With regard to the application under the Promotion of Access to Information Act received by your office on 22 March 2012 concerning details of the MEC’s purchases on her official government credit card, will the MEC please indicate:

(i) why has there been no response to this application;

(ii) whether the department comply with the Act in this instance;

(iii) if not, why not; and

(iv) why is the MEC hiding the details of her credit card purchases?
