An unlicensed old age home in Krugersdorp was signed off for closure on 29 March this year for a fourth time.

This was revealed in a written reply by Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe, to my questions in the Gauteng Legislature.

However, the La-Reynette frail care centre continues to operate illegally and has ignored this notice of closure and several others.

The Executive Mayor of Mogale City, Koketso Seerane, resolved earlier this year that the Mogale City local municipality should ensure the closure of the La-Reynette frail care centre in Krugersdorp.

However it continued to enlist patients and the NGO manager simply refused to sign the notice of closure receipt.

How many notices of closure will it take to close this place down?

The Department was alerted following complaints by neighbours regarding the mistreatment of the elderly. Continual screams and crying can be heard coming from the premises of the old age home which is located in a residential area.

I call on the MEC to enforce the notice of closure without delay.
