Jack Bloom MPL
DA Gauteng Health Spokesman
The Gauteng Health Department claims to have paid all its debts, but Mr Vorster Rasodo, the Managing Director of Dikolobesodi Transport cc claims that he is owed R2 074 291 for Tender no GT1023TM for medicine distribution.
Mr Rasodo has been trying all means to get payment since 2000, including the Presidential hotline, but to no avail.
I also suspect that the Department is still owing huge amounts to local governments and other state entities as it has been giving priority to paying private suppliers.
According to a written reply by Gauteng Health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe to my questions in the Gauteng Legislature, at the end of April it owed R239 million to local governments, and a further R82 million to other state entities.
Johannesburg was owed R135 million as at 30 April, Ekurhukeni was owed R83.5 million, and Tshwane was owed R8.3 million.
Other amounts owing were as follows:
Sedibeng District Council – R8.7 million Emfuleni – R1.3 million Mogale City – R950 000
The National Health Laboratory Service was owed R64 million and the Justice Department R14 million.
The Department must tell us how much it is still owing to all these entities, especially in view of the financial crisis currently facing Gauteng local councils because of unpaid bills.
