Glenda Steyn MPL
DA Gauteng Chief Whip and SCOPA Spokesperson
The Democratic Alliance (DA) will ensure that the Gauteng Public Accounts Committee (SCOPA) monitors the implementation of the Integrity Commissioner’s recommendations on the Mmemezi saga.
The DA welcomes Premier Nomvula Mokonyane’s indications today that the provincial government will do everything in its power to exercise fiscal discipline. The Premier correctly highlighted the fact that guidelines for the use of the corporate credit cards are not definitive. Sadly, some MECs in the past have used the vague guidelines to hide a multitude of excesses.
We also welcome the decision to implement the recommendations of the Integrity Commissioner to review credit card spending guidelines.
The DA will ensure that the provincial public accounts committee diligently monitors the implementation of these recommendations and the tightening of credit card spending guidelines in order to prevent future credit card abuses.
