James Masango MPL
Provincial Chief Whip of the Official Opposition.
Mpumalanga education MEC Reginah Mhaule must explain the origins of the latest discovery of dumped textbooks and other Learner Teacher Support Materials (LTSM) in Ermelo, where it came from, and why it was dumped in the first place.
On Monday textbooks and other LTSMs were found dumped on a dumpsite in Ermelo. The local media were informed and a number of photos were taken by journalists and other members of the public. When asked for comment, departmental spokesperson Jasper Zwane refused to respond, instead insisting that the evidence was questionable.
Instead of telling members of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and the media that this and other discoveries are questionable and that photos showing dumped materials could have been taken anywhere, MEC Mhaule and Mr Zwane must face the facts that books and LTSMs are being dumped, and that the public deserves and explanation.
The DA will once again submit written questions to MEC Mhaule asking her to explain why the materials were dumped, who authorised it, and where the materials came from in the first place.
MEC Mhaule must accept the responsibility of her office and stop questioning others’ motives when holding her accountable. It is an accepted fact that learning materials were dumped in Limpopo and that it is very possible for the same to happen elsewhere in the country. MEC Mhaule should stop wasting the public’s time by making feeble excuses, act immediately and investigate the circumstances surrounding the dumping of LTSMs both in Ermelo and in Komatipoort.
