A report in the Sowetan today indicates that parents of pupils from Mamelodi high school in Tshwane will be marching to the office of Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy to complain about alleged mismanagement of school funds by the chairperson of the school governing body Motlalepelu Mabena.

The parents accuse Mabena of coercing and intimidating the school’s principal Daisy Phahlane into buying liquor on the school’s account and using school funds for her personal use.

The parents recently appointed their own task team to investigate the matters, as many of their letters to the Department have gone unanswered.

This is a complete failure on the part of the Department as it has a responsibility to respond to allegations of this nature and intervene immediately.

The DA in Gauteng urges the MEC to launch an investigation into the involvement of both the chairperson and the principal in this matter and bring the guilty parties to book.
