Tembisa painkiller shortage a headache for patients

During my recent oversight visit to the the Mokhathini Clinic in Tembisa I was shocked to find that this facility is experiencing a three month long shortage of painkillers

It is of great concern that patients at the clinic have had to endure pain as a result of a lack of this basic medicine. Clinics are the first line in our health system, a failure to supply them properly is a serious problem.

Painkillers are an absolutely fundamental medication, and it is inexcusable that they not be provided for such a long period.

The DA in Gauteng will take up this issue in the legislature to ensure that the provincial Department of Health takes appropriate corrective action.
