Gauteng Health Owes R300M to Suppliers

Jack Bloom MPL

DA Gauteng Health Spokesman

Despite repeated promises to pay all hospital suppliers within 30 days, the Gauteng Health Department still owes more than R300 million to more than 50 companies.

This is my estimate based on industry sources and companies complaining to me that they are owed large amounts dating as far back as 2009.

It’s brutally unfair on these companies which struggle to survive, often continuing to provide essential hospital supplies because patients are dependent on them.

The department blames companies for not complying with paperwork, but documents often get lost by the Gauteng Shared Services Centre that processes payments.

It is absolutely essential all debts are settled promptly, otherwise hospitals will continue to struggle when companies discontinue supplies.

How long will it be before the department complies with the law that companies be paid within 30 days?
