DA Northern Cape Leader
The DA calls on President Jacob Zuma to put an end to speculation that Tina Joemat-Pettersson could be deployed by the ANC as Northern Cape Premier.
The DA has reason to believe that the redeployment is being strongly considered within the ANC. The Northern Cape cannot be a dumping ground for failed Ministers.
Ms Joemat-Pettersson faces several Public Protector investigations for abuse of her office.
These include millions wasted on hotels and flights, an irregular R800 million tender awarded to politically-connected Sekunjalo, and various abuses of her office during the recent farmworker strikes.
The agriculture and fisheries industries have lost faith in the Minister to act in the best interests of growth and jobs.
The Northern Cape faces massive economic challenges, including an unemployment rate of 36%, if those who have given up looking for work are taken into account.
The people of this province deserve better than the corrupt leadership the ANC currently offers. Every member of the re-elected ANC top five either faces formal corruption charges has been found guilty of corruption or is linked to serious corruption allegations.
Adding a sixth member to this quintet in the form of a failed Minister with a reputation for abuse of office would be a further sign that the ANC does not care about good governance.
The DA will continue to build a new majority in the Northern Cape that will, on a day not far from now, govern this province in the interests of all the people.
