DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Local Government
Today, the DA will report irregular housing tenders awarded to Julius Malema’s allies to the offices of Limpopo’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
It must be probed why tenders worth R900 million as reported by the Star, were awarded against the recommendations of the Bid Committee by the Limpopo Human Settlements Department.
It cannot be a mere coincidence that those who won the tenders despite being disqualified by the Bid Committee all have links with Malema, a close ally of MEC Clifford Motsepe.
Apparently the tender awards were made hastily after the ruling party’s elective conference in Mangaung, where Limpopo’s political foes were victorious.
It seems MEC Motsepe opened this emergency slush fund nearly as fast as Malema’s political fortunes have fallen.
These disqualified companies belong to individuals with dubious track records in delivering on state tenders and are known to have been Malema benefactors in the past.
Given the evidence at hand, the DA expects a quick and precise investigation from Limpopo’s SIU.
