Residents of Ward 34 in Emalahleni last night gave DA councillor elect Lizelle Steyn a resounding mandate to represent their interests in the Emalahleni local council. The ward was contested by the DA and the Freedom Front plus – the ANC missed the IEC deadline for candidate nominations.
The DA obtained 95,9% of the vote, up from the 72% we received in 2011, and we are extremely grateful to the voters of Emalahleni for their ongoing support of the DA.
In the face of the service delivery crisis this municipality has been in for years, the DA will do all in our power in the ward, and in the local council, to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Last night’s result once again proves that the DA is only growing political party in South Africa, with smaller opposition parties becoming less and less relevant.
It is clear that voters are increasingly realising that the DA is not just the only effective opposition party, but is fast becoming the uniting voice of South Africans fed up with almost two decades of maladministration, nepotism and corruption.
