Radley Keys, MPP DA KZN Spokesperson on Conservation and Environmental Affairs The Democratic Alliance calls for a KwaZulu-Natal man charged with rhino poaching for the second time in less than four years to be denied bail at a court hearing scheduled for Monday next week. Muntungowakhe Khoza, and an accomplice were arrested earlier this month with two still-bloody rhino white rhino horns. Khoza is currently out on bail in connection with another charge of rhino poaching dating from 2009. This incident is proof that serial poachers who are being allowed to walk away after posting bail are going back to butchering rhino and other protected species. A deplorable 12 rhino have been poached in KwaZulu-Natal this year. Clearly being apprehended and facing trial is no longer a deterrent. The DA congratulates the SAPS for their role in apprehending these criminals. We urge the Magistrate in this case to take a hard line- these individuals must be stopped from committing their heinous actions. The punishment must reflect the severity of the crime and they cannot be allowed to walk away and continue destroying our heritage. Bail must be denied.
