Jacques Smalle MP

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader

The DA has been informed of serious police brutality in Bochum, Limpopo. The family of a grade 12 boy from Mantshako Secondary School in Bochum approached us for assistance in this regard.

The boy reportedly had a physical confrontation with another learner at the school on 26 February 2013. Four policemen from Maleboho police station were called in by the principal to resolve the situation. These policemen took the boy to the nearby bushes and proceeded to severely beat the learner. Afterwards, he had to be taken to Raditshaba clinic and Helen Franz Hospital for medical attention.

These policemen need to be suspended urgently. The family has already lodged a complaint with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate. The police officers should be suspended until after the investigation is concluded. The DA will be writing to the Provincial Police Commissioner Mr. Mbembe to urge him to take action against these officials. It is simply unacceptable for these officers to continue serving actively under these circumstances.
