There are currently no fire and emergency vehicles available in Mbashe Local Municipality and the DA will make an urgent written appeal today, to the Superintendent General of the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Stanley Khanyile asking him to immediately intervene in the matter.

Mbashe Local Municipality’s fire and emergency vehicles have been grounded due to the Amathole District Municipality failing to pay rent for the past three months.

The DA will make an urgent written appeal today to the Superintendent General of the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Stanley Khanyile asking him to immediately intervene in this matter.

The DA views this as unacceptable negligence from the Amathole District Municipality’s part and total disregard for the people’s lives that are being put at risk.

Any deaths that arise as a result of this, should be seen at the hands of the municipality for creating the conditions that have caused this unfortunate situation to occur.

The DA will continue to hold the Amathole District Municipality accountable.
