DA challenges Mogalakwena Muni to fix storm water pipes

Desiree van der Walt MPL

DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Local Government

I will be writing to MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, Mr. Clifford Motsepe to ask him to urgently intervene in what is an utter neglect of Ward 31 Extension 20 in Mogalakwena.

The absence of properly functioning storm water (see pictures) pipes is causing considerable problems for the community. Each time it rains this area becomes inaccessible, with water going into the people’s houses. Houses collapse as a result and for the duration of the rain it becomes extremely difficult for learners to go to school and adults to work. This was experienced as recently as last week when it rained but the problem has been in existence since the establishment of this area in 2008.

Our councillor for the ward, Mr. Korny Dekker has raised the matter several times with the municipality’s technical department but nothing is forthcoming. For a municipality that has wasted considerable amounts of public money on irregular and wasteful expenditure, this neglect to deliver basic services cannot go unchallenged.

The DA will do everything in its power to make sure that service delivery, a constitutional imperative, does reach the people of Ward 31.
