The DA Limpopo will tomorrow during a press conference be presenting a private members bill entitled the Limpopo Community Safety Bill.

Recent reports estimate that at least 5850 rapes could have occurred in Limpopo this year alone.

The rape crisis in the province has been met with a disappointing level of police work, with no convictions being secured for almost all of the province’s recent high-profile and brutal rape cases.

The aim of this bill is to make police more accountable to the safety needs of communities through a partnership between community groups and provincial government.

With the escalating levels of crime and rape cases, there is now a pressing need in the province to ensure more efficient and effective policing.

The Press Conference will be hosted by Jacques Smalle(MP), DA Provincial Leader, Desiree van der Walt (MPL),  Caucus Leader and Meisie Kennedy (MPL), Spokesperson on Safety, Security and Liaison.
