R68 000 hospital cash stolen because security company not paid

The George Mukhari Hospital in north west Gauteng was robbed of R68 000 earlier this month because its unpaid security company stopped providing services.

Protea Coin Security stopped transporting money for the hospital in February this year because of non-payment.

The hospital now uses its own employees to transport cash to a bank in Pretoria, but they were robbed on 3 April by gunmen.

It is unacceptable that hospital staff are put at risk transporting money because the Gauteng Health Department has not paid the security company.

The Department keeps claiming that all suppliers have been paid, but we see that once again this is not true.

Proper security should be restored to this hospital as soon as possible.
