Suspended Gauteng Economic Development Head of Department Khulu Radebe is yet to face disciplinary action emanating from a forensic investigation during his tenure at the Gauteng Finance Department.
In response to my question Finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe indicated that Radebe’s failure to obtain approval from the MEC resulted in unauthorised expenditure. Radebe was then appointed Economic Development Head before the investigation or disciplinary action could be finalised.
Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane suspended Radebe in January, citing “for non-performance and lack of accountability on some of the key youth development programmes”.
Radebe’s troubles appear to be mounting as he is now supposed to be facing charges of committing unauthorised expenditure.
But yet again the Finance MEC, who initiated the forensic investigation, is unable to indicate whether such charges were ever laid. The MEC says that he has advised his counterpart to pursue disciplinary action but he is not aware whether this was ever done.
I will submit a follow up question to Economic Development MEC Nkosiphendule Kholisile to determine whether disciplinary action was indeed pursued against Radebe, and whether this is in any way related to his suspension.
It has happened before that a disciplinary process has been dropped between two departments. It is clear that in this provincial government the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
