Tzaneen by-elections – DA will not be intimidated

Jacques Smalle MP

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader

The Democratic Alliance will be laying a formal complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission after its posters for the by-elections in Ward 24 Tzaneen were intentionally damaged yesterday.  The by-elections will be held on 24 April after a vacancy was created by the resignation of the ANC’s councillor.

This is a clear violation of the electoral laws and is a signal of political intolerance. Our activists on the ground in Tzaneen have identified the alleged wrongdoers as being the supporters of the ruling party.

The IEC must fully investigate this.

If the IEC finds in our favour, it would be clear that the ruling party is losing its grip with the local electorate and will resort to undemocratic measures to stay in power.

The DA as the only viable alternative to the ruling party will not be intimidated by these threats. We are in these elections to win and improve service delivery for the people of Ward 24.
