Warring Minister and MEC must visit Limpopo clinics themselves

Desiree van der Walt MP

DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Health

The DA challenges both the provincial health MEC, Dr. Norman Mabasa and his national counterpart Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to get off their ivory towers and personally visit the hospitals and clinics in the province.

This is after a public spat between these two officials yesterday about whether or not there is vaccine medication at Rethabile and Buite Clinics in Polokwane.

This public disagreement by two of most senior people responsible for public healthcare facilities shows just how out of touch they both are with the realities faced by the people.

Machines for critical operations and other medical needs are broken. This Monday the DA visited Ms. Patricia Phukubye who is suffering from cervical cancer and could not be treated at Polokwane Hospital because of broken machines. Our calls for a meeting with the Hospital CEO were denied.

The reality is that the Limpopo health care system is collapsing.

In the clinics across the province, people are being turned away because important medicine is not available.

The challenges are enormous and not just limited to availability of medicines.

If they both had a firm grasp of the hardships faced by our people, they will be both rolling up their sleeves and sorting out our health mess instead of sending confusing statements to the people.
