Jacques Smalle MP DA Limpopo Provincial Leader The DA welcomes the arrest of six officials from the Department of Education in Modimolle by the Hawks but a revision of pay-roll system in the department is still needed to expose more ghost teachers. It is alleged that the officials pocketed more than R330 000 after renewing contracts of six teachers without their knowledge. The DA still believes that there are plenty of officials who are pocketing public money in this way in various districts of the province. With the ailing education system in the province, the money could have been used to purchase textbooks for learners around Modimolle instead of officials enriching themselves. The department must now review all their pay-roll systems to ensure that all the legitimate department officials get their correct salaries and save millions of rands that could be utilised to improve school infrastructure and resources throughout the province. We are calling upon the Hawks to continue to probe other districts to arrest more department officials conducting the same activities.
