The DA is most concerned that the shack of DA activist Climax Shimange was burnt down recently in a suspected act of political intimidation.
Shimange lives in the L and J informal settlement in Tembisa near the R21 highway.
I stayed in his shack last year in July as part of my “Don’t forget the forgotten” campaign to highlight conditions in deprived areas.
Shimange’s shack was burnt down early Saturday morning on 1 June. He was away attending a funeral, but his 18-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son were lucky to escape with their lives when intruders burst open the door and set the shack alight.
DA MPL Patricia Mokgohlwa is assisting Shimange to rebuild his shack and replace belongings. Building materials have been donated by the Build-it store in Ebony Park, but he needs clothes for himself, his wife and three children.
It is really shocking that thugs destroy property and threaten lives for political reasons.
All political parties must control their supporters and denounce any form of political intimidation that prevents people exercising free choice.
