Desiree van der Walt MPL
DA Limpopo Legislature Caucus Leader
The Democratic Alliance welcomes today’s resignation by Mr. Cassel Mathale as the premier of Limpopo.
In fact his ousting, as opposed to voluntary resignation is long overdue and underscores the DA’s motion of no confidence in his premiership. All the efforts to block the DA’s motion in the Legislature have proved meaningless as today’s move effectively is in agreement with the DA’s long held position.
Mr. Mathale’s track record in government is so poor that he should have been shown the door a long time ago.
He oversaw a very corrupt governance in Limpopo, with unfettered squandering of public’s money. Five departments were placed under administration under him because budgets were abused.
Furthermore learners in the province had to endure difficult academic months because textbooks were not delivered on the time.
The DA’s motion of no confidence in Mathale’s premiership has now been vindicated.
We keenly await to see who will be replacing him as the head of the province, we will continue to exercise oversight on the incumbent.
