Today, I be laying criminal charges with the Polokwane Hawks against officials of Aganang Municipality for alleged corruption involving the tender to install a CCTV Security System.
Documents in the DA’s possession show how the supplier originally quoted R 300 000 for the installation. However we have been reliably informed that on advice to the supplier by an official who is on the bid adjudication committee, this amount was doubled in order to pay kickbacks.
The municipality eventually paid the inflated price for the system.
We are of the firm view that there is a strong prima facie case which warrants a criminal investigation by the Hawks. This must be done in order to root out corruption in our municipalities.
Swift action by the Hawks will set a precedent that crime does not pay and the law will apprehend those involved. This is robbing our poor municipalities of monies which could have been used for service delivery.
