Lack of scholar transport undermines learning

This morning I visited parents of the Malusi Informal settlements in Hercules, Tshwane to address the major lack of scholar transport in the area.

There are many children of school going age, who aren’t going to school due to the lack of scholar transport. These children are being denied access to basic quality education.

The parents indicated that they had a meeting in April this year with Gauteng Department of Education officials who committed that they will provide a bus to transport learners from Malusi to Attredgeville and to Booysens Primary school. Yet, nothing has come of it.

The parents are pleading with the Department to facilitate this process and assist these distraught parents to get their children to school.

I have provided Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy with all the necessary information and have also requested urgent and immediate intervention so that these children do not miss any more school than they need to
