Spokesperson on Petitions
The DA in Gauteng urges all angry protesters throughout the province to consider the legislature’s petitions process to demand action rather than throwing stones during service delivery protests. Noting the current protest activities in Protea Glen, Fochville and other parts of Gauteng, it is clear that the current government has failed in taking the concerns of residents into consideration.
Holding government to account is very important, especially where service delivery is in shambles. It is also important that residents express their dissatisfactions where governments fall short in rendering services to the people as promised.
The DA urges all concerned to go through submitting formal petitions to their municipalities if it is on municipal issues or to the provincial legislature’s petitions committee on provincial issues or where municipalities have consistently failed to address and respond to issues.
As DA representative on the Gauteng Legislature’s Petitions Committee I am ready to assist the public across the province in this regard.
I undertake to make the petitions process more accessible and we will be making the petitions form available on the website of the DA Gauteng Legislature Caucus at www.da-gpl.co.za.
The Legislature is bound by the Constitution to provide the people of Gauteng with a voice in the affairs of their government, and the DA will assist the public in having their voice heard through the petitions process.
