New Gauteng MEC a puzzling choice

The appointment of Mxolisi Eric Xayiya as the new Gauteng Economic Development MEC is a puzzling choice.

He does not have a strong economics background, unlike his predecessor Nkosiphendule Kolisile.

There are better qualified people in the ANC for this position, so it is a political appointment dictated by the balance of power between Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Gauteng ANC Chairperson Paul Mashatile.

Xayiya has a daunting task as the department’s job creation efforts have mostly failed.

Voters will be better off under a DA administration that would implement a Youth Wage Subsidy and cut red tape for small businesses.
