Desiree van der Walt MPL
DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Basic Education
The DA has met with Limpopo Education MEC Ms. Dikeledi Magadzi to discuss our concerns about learners in Limpopo going a third straight year without enough textbooks.
MEC Magadzi has conceded that the distribution plan for textbooks was not yet finalised. She however undertook that all textbooks, for all grades and for all subjects will be delivered to schools before close of this academic year.
The key reason why textbooks are not reaching learners is that there is no tracking system that can confirm whether books were delivered in the right numbers.
The DA will hold the MEC to her word. We will be monitoring every aspect of the textbook situation in the province to make sure that what happened in the last two year does not repeat itself.
We trust that MEC Magadzi will keep her promise for the sake of our learners.
Given the hardships that our learners had to endure in past two years with regards to textbook non- delivery where similar promises were made, the DA will still embark on a province wide monitoring campaign.
Two key promises made by the MEC was that textbooks were already ordered. She promised that textbooks were about to be delivered to Limpopo’s warehouses.
We will not rest on our laurels until it becomes a norm in Limpopo that textbooks are delivered on time, for all grades and for all subjects in Limpopo.
