Limpopo patients sleep on the floor as government dumps beds

Oversight by Democratic Alliance has revealed yet another shocking instance of medical equipment shortages in a Limpopo Hospital.

Patients at F.H. Odendaal Hospital in Modimolle are sleeping (click here)  on the floor because of an acute shortage of beds in this facility.

This state of affairs (click here)  is completely unacceptable considering the fact the DA was yesterday stopped from saving medical equipment, including beds, wheelchairs and baby incubators, which have been dumped by Polokwane Hospital.

The situation at F. H.Odendaal hospital (click)  borders on utter callousness for the patients who use that public facility.  According to our sources, nurses are sometimes forced to bring their own food in order to feed patients because there was also a shortage of food supply in this hospital.

It’s unthinkable that with a province-wide shortage of medical equipment in Limpopo, the provincial government is destroying perfectly usable essentials like beds and wheelchairs.

The DA is now pushing for an urgent meeting with Health MEC Dipuo Letsatsi Duba to explain why the Limpopo government is dumping medical equipment instead of repairing it.

We want the practice of dumping medical equipment in Limpopo to end and for shortages to be addressed immediately.

The DA’s province wide oversight of equipment dumping at health facilities will continue in the coming days.
