Limpopo police boss must tackle outstanding corruption cases

Jacques Smalle MP

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader

The Democratic Alliance welcomes the appointment of the new Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Masemola.

The DA Limpopo has opened several cases implicating a number of senior political figures in corrupt activities in the province. Under General Mphembe, there has been significant resistance to probing these matters. We hope that Lt-General Masemola will galvanise the police force into tackling these cases in order to rid our province of corruption.

I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the new commissioner Lt-General Masemola to discuss all the outstanding cases which were reported by the DA.

This new appointment also comes amidst a concerning rise in crime levels in Limpopo, particularly incidences of rape and sexual assault. Reports earlier this year indicated that thousands of women and children are being raped at an alarming rate in the province.

The new commissioner therefore has a clear cut challenge set out for him: he must make sure that rapists are swiftly apprehended and crime levels come down in Limpopo.

We look forward to working with him to make sure that Limpopo becomes a safer province.
