Mokonyane’s Western Cape theatrics a dereliction of duty

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane spent the day marching and protesting in the Western Cape instead of doing background checks and objecting to the appointment of Mondli Zuma as provincial police commissioner.

Mokonyane is required by the Constitution to be directly involved in the appointment and must concur with the National Police Commissioner’s decision.

Mokonyane abandoned her responsibility to protect the interests and safety of the people of Gauteng and has still not made any public announcement on her role in the fiasco.

The Premier sadly forgot about her duty to Gauteng and its people while attempting to score cheap political points at the front lines in a march against the DA-led Western Cape provincial government.

Mokonyane owes the people of Gauteng and law-abiding police officers an apology. She must explain her misguided approach to governance in the province.
