Hospital management forces Tembisa student doctors to sleep in waiting room

The DA in Gauteng condemns the action by Tembisa hospital management which led to student doctors being locked out of their accommodation and forced to sleep on chairs in the hospital itself.

The DA also calls on Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo to intervene in the on-going and escalating dispute between the intern doctors and hospital management.

A comprehensive investigation by the Sowetan highlights the on-going dispute, which started in September last year when the student doctors were removed from their residence because it was found to be unsafe.

They have now been locked out of their temporary accommodation and, having been separated from their belongings, were forced to tend to patients in shorts and slippers yesterday.

The DA will ask questions to the MEC about the renovation process, specifically about the service providers, timelines and cost.

The MEC must act to ensure that these doctors are properly accommodated to give patients at Tembisa hospital the quality care and attention they deserve.
