The electricity hikes of up to 1200% mega hit for Msunduzi commercial users beggars belief.
If this proposal is allowed to go ahead, the ‘poor in the city’ will only become poorer.
The question must also be asked – do the city’s decision-makers really want to chase all the businesses out of town with the imposition of these punitive charges?
If Mayor Chris Ndlela honestly believes that this tariff hike will “balance the budget and take care of the poor in the city” then he is surely a flawed representative of the supposed interests of his electorate.
Surely, Mr Mayor, you can come up with alternative measures to help the poor – starting with encouraging business and investment, and thereby job creation?
