Disputes delay filling Gauteng’s 99 vacant principal posts

The DA in Gauteng is concerned that many principal posts across the province are not being filled because of disputes. The DA has tabled two set of questions where two principals have been appointed, but are not working at the schools they were appointed. These schools are Vuwani secondary and Thembile primary school.

This defeats the purpose of filling vacancies. It is hard to comprehend why vacancies are filled but principals get paid not reporting at the schools they are supposed to be reporting. These principals must resume their responsibility immediately after appointment.

It is disturbing to note that 99 vacant principal posts in Gauteng are still outstanding due to disputes. It Is alleged that these disputes are primarily caused by SADTU pushing for their own comrades instead of excellent principals.

The MEC must take the lead as the political head of the department and ensure that these vacancies are filled before the end of the year.

Leadership and management are key to successful schools, and this gap must be closed urgently.
