Olifantshoek by-election: DA to report abuse of state resources to Public Protector

The Democratic Alliance will report the ongoing abuse of state resources for ANC canvassing purposes to the Public Protector.  The ANC has been shamelessly utilising state resources to conduct its campaign for this Wednesday’s by-election in Olifantshoek.

We caught the ANC yesterday, for the second day running, using vehicles from the Department of Roads and Public Works for electioneering purposes. Officials from the department were also participating in the ANC’s campaigning.

In other words, Northern Cape government officials are abusing state resources and tax funds to help the ANC campaign for the Olifantshoek by-elections.

The use of state resources for political party campaigning is strictly prohibited by South Africa’s electoral code. Canvassing for votes never falls within the definition of government duties and cannot be funded at taxpayer expense.

The ANC is panicking and is willing to do anything to hold on to power. That is why it is resorting to these kinds of tactics.

We will report every single case of abuse and make sure that the guilty parties are brought to book.
