Premier can’t avoid failures

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has today presented her political report to the Gauteng Legislature.

She paints the best possible picture of government achievements in Gauteng, but the reality is far more mixed.

The most glaring failure is that there are 400 000 more people who are unemployed than when she took office in May 2009.

Six Township Enterprise Hubs were promised last year, but only two have been partially completed.

Many small companies still struggle because of late payments by the provincial government.

Large infrastructure projects like the Jabulani and New Natalspruit Hospitals are crippled by delays and budget over-runs.

Anti-corruption efforts tend to catch only the small thieves, while the politically-connected big fish get away.

The DA celebrates the progress that has been made in Gauteng, but this cannot hide the fact that the provincial government grossly under-performs.

Voters have the opportunity next year to elect a smart DA government for the smart people of Gauteng.
