Patricia Kopane MP
DA Leader in the Free State
The HAWKS will investigate the irregularities into the multimillion-rand contracts between Letlaka Media and the Office of the Free State Premier. The DA today handed the National Treasury Report, showing major irregularities into the FS government’s contracts with Letlaka Media, over to the HAWKS.
The HAWKS have confirmed that a docket will be opened and an initial investigation will be conducted.
It is interesting to note that when the Office of the Premier was approached for comment by independent media institutions, the Free State government spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, is alleged to have said that they have not seen the report. This is a blatant lie.
There is a detailed letter by the then director-general, Ms Elzabe Rockman, dismissing the allegations made within the treasury report. She has clearly seen it, and the government is now lying about it to avoid accountability. It is an insult to the people of the Free State.
When Rockman was approached for comment, she referred queries back to the Office of the Premier despite knowing all the details contained in the report.
This is another example of how some government officials collude to protect and consolidate Ace Magashule’s hold over the Free State. We have a power hungry premier that is hell-bent on ruling the Free State as his personal fiefdom. His patronage network is well established.
The DA will continue to pursue all legal means available to ensure that the contracts between Letlaka Media and the Office of the Premier are cancelled and that criminal charges are brought against those implicated.
