DA to report Modimolle Municipality for delaying appointment of Councillor

Desiree van der Walt MPL

DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Local Government

The DA will report the Modimolle Municipality for purposely delaying the appointment of a DA Councillor.

I will today be writing to the Minister and the Limpopo MEC of Local Government to report the Modimolle Municipality for purposely delaying the appointment of DA Councillor, Michiel Laubscher.

The DA successfully contested Ward 8 in Modimolle on 27 November 2013.

The Municipality held a Council meeting in December 2013, without inviting/notifying the new Ward Councillor whilst quite aware that the residents of Ward 8 elected a new councillor who should look after their interest.

In accordance with the law, a councillor is appointed on the date of the Election on which he/she has successfully won the Ward.  The ANC governed Modimolle Municipality must adhere to the laws of our country and accept the outcomes of a democratic by-election.

The residents of Ward 8 has been without a Ward Councillor since the death of councillor Lourens van Aswegen on 23 August 2013. They have voted on 27 November and deserves to get their chosen councillor appointed without any delay.
