Jacques Smalle MP
DA Limpopo Provincial Leader
Yesterday, the DA opened a criminal case (CAS 108/1/2014) for financial irregularities against Aganang Municipal Manager (MM) Mr. Ramakuntwane Selepe.
I will be seeking an urgent meeting with Local Government MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe to urge him to suspend the MM pending the finalisation of the investigations.
Another document in DA’s possession clearly indicates that the MM is bent on interfering with the investigations, including using hard handed tactics against those involved.
Aganang Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) uncovered serious financial irregularities allegedly committed by the MM.
These violations of the MFMA include:
- Mr. Selepe hired vehicles at R75 000 from a company whose director is a spouse to one of the councillors. This was done without obtaining the required number of quotes.
- He appointed a company of developers which is owned by a state official who had no permission to do outside remunerative work. This company was paid R487 173.00.
- 2 more companies owned by state officials were appointed without verifying whether the owners were granted permission by their respective departments.
- A company appointed for the storm water project was paid R4 800 000 and yet no service level agreement was signed.
Should MEC Kgetjepe fail to suspend the MM, the DA will stage a picket at the first Council meeting where this MPAC’s report will be tabled.
The DA is resolute to fight corruption in whatever form it manifests.
