Limpopo roads a danger to motorists

Jacques Smalle MP

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader

The Department of Roads and Transport in Limpopo is endangering road users by not properly maintaining Limpopo’s  roads.

In the last ten month , 2072 accidents occurred throughout the province leading to more than 450 fatalities. The festive season road death toll was massive this year. Government should clearly be doing everything in its power to make roads safer and more user-friendly.

The problem is that Limpopo’s roads are becoming less safe because of decaying infrastructure. Many roads are riddled with potholes (Click here),

According to the department’s monthly reports (Click), many accidents are caused by speeding, reckless driving and tires that burst due to bad road conditions (click).

The road conditions on the R555 that links Mpumalanga and Limpopo are especially dangerous. The department fails to maintain the road despite it being a major provincial road.

We want the department to keep the approach of the festive season all year round by deploying more traffic officials on all the major roads. On top of that, government needs to start maintaining infrastructure properly.

Government is putting our people in harm’s way by not properly maintaining road infrastructure. It is dangerous and irresponsible.
