DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Basic Education
The provincial department of education must urgently ensure that learners in Praktiseer, Burgersfort are allocated spaces in alternative schools.
Today’s reports indicate that these learners are left with no schools as they had to make way from their previous schools for a mining enterprise.
The promise to build these learners a new school has not materialised.
It is also reported that the department of education will not relocate these learners to alternative schools.
Whatever the disputes are between the concerned mining house and other community and government stakeholders are, it cannot come at the expense of learners’ education.
As this is already the second day of school, more days cannot be wasted with these learners out of school.
The Constitution places the responsibility of providing education to our learners squarely on provincial government’s shoulders.
The DA calls on Education MEC Ms. Dikeledi Magadzi to put the interests of these learners first by making sure that they allocated space in other schools.
