Following a meeting of the Western Cape Provincial Government SCOPA, the DA is satisfied to learn that a decision has been taken to invite leaders from the previous ANC administration to appear before SCOPA.  Marius Fransman and Pierre Uys (Executive members for Public Works and Transport and Health respectively) will be asked to appear before the committee to answer questions on billions of Rands that was spent on “consultants”, during their time in office until 2009.

Of 31 contracts the AG examined, 28 were signed by the ANC during their time in office.

The DA is proud to say that since taking over the provincial administration in 2009, we have taken to heart the advice given by the AG regarding these matters. Both the Provincial Departments of Public Works and Transport and Health has implemented management tools to ensure costs are reduced and that due process and transparency result in value for money wherever in the providing of services.

In an earlier statement outside of SCOPA, ANC MPP Khaya Magaxa, has pointed out what an extreme waste of money this has been and we agree, that the ANC administration questionably spent millions for which they have little to show.

The DA expects answers from Zuma’s ANC leadership to exactly what the benefits were to the public for some of these costly contracts.
