The empty shells and bare foundations of 14 houses in Botleng just outside Delmas have been standing incomplete for over three years, amid a host of allegations of corrupt activities.
The DA has received conflicting information as to why the contractor left the site without completing the project, but it ranges from non-payment, to short payment, as well as allegations of ANC councillors and municipal officials “skimming finder’s fees” from the contractor’s payments.
Allegations aside, the fact is that deserving people have been left homeless, and are now forced to wait even longer for the department to get its act together.
The DA will write to MEC Gamede requesting an immediate investigation into the matter, as well as to provide beneficiaries with a deadline when their houses will be ready for occupation.
The DA will continue to monitor the situation until it is resolved.
