James Masango MPL
Chairperson – DA Mpumalanga
The DA shares its deepest and most sincere condolences with the families and loved ones of the four people who tragically lost their lives along the R573 Moloto Road yesterday.
According to reports a taxi overturned along this notorious road near Mathys Zyn Loop, killing three passengers and the driver, and critically injuring 12 others, who were rushed to hospitals in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Government must stop talking about improving conditions along this “Road of Death” and start implementing the Moloto Rail Corridor without delay.
Every day, thousands of commuters risk their lives travelling along this stretch of road in search of a better life and work opportunities in Gauteng, while the opportunity for massive economic growth and job creation lies untapped for hundreds of thousands of people.
Sadly, the only time government talks about the corridor’s implementation, is when people lose their lives in traffic accidents, and ANC premiers and cabinet ministers stand at victims’ gravesides and make promises they are not willing, nor able to deliver upon.
The time has come for commuters to make a choice: Either they vote for a party committed to implementing the Moloto rail corridor, or they continue witnessing the death of their loved ones on this notorious road.
The DA wishes the survivors of today’s accident a speedy recovery, and reassures resident of the Thembisile Hani and Dr JS Moroka municipalities that we will use every avenue available to have government implement the Moloto Corridor, no matter how long it takes.
